India: Congress Party Passes Resolution to Make Rahul Gandhi Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha

The opposition Congress party unanimously passed a resolution during its working committee’s meeting on June 8 to make Rahul Gandhi the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi is yet to announce his decision on the position offered. The party also reviewed its election performance during the meeting in the national capital Delhi. The party members lauded Rahul Gandhi for his election campaign. He led the party’s campaign for the Lok Sabha election 2024. The Congress party secured 99 Lok Sabha seats out of a total of 543. Congress did not have a leader of opposition in 2014 and 2019 as it failed to secure a minimum of 54 seats. A party is required to secure 10% of seats in the Lok Sabha to be able to elect a Leader of Opposition.
