Chinese Navy Tails Manila's Vessel During West Philippine Sea Patrol | Spotlight | N18G

China-Philippines ties: Tensions are rising once again in the West Philippine Sea amid Manila's maritime patrol to assert sovereignty over its Exclusive Economic Zone. A three-ship formation from the Philippine Navy, currently conducting a four-day operation until June 7, came face-to-face with a Chinese Navy warship — reportedly a Ma’anshan–Jiangkai-class frigate capable of being equipped with advanced missiles and rockets. Critics say China’s expansive maritime claims, already rejected in a 2016 international ruling, continue to strain diplomatic ties. Defence Secretary Gilberto Teodoro previously warned of a growing "trust deficit" with China. The standoff highlights a growing rift not just at sea, but in geopolitical alliances across Southeast Asia.
