A major Indian pharmaceutical plant in Ukraine’s Sumy region, owned by Kusum Group, has been heavily damaged in a Russian drone attack, leaving at least one person dead and several injured.The main structure of the facility was reportedly destroyed after drones struck the site, sending a massive plume of smoke into the sky. Kusum Group, which began in 1994 as a distributor of Indian medicines in Ukraine, later expanded into manufacturing, opening its Sumy facility in 2009.
The company produces more than 50 mostly generic medicines and operates across several countries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the victim’s family.
The plant had continued operating throughout the Russia-Ukraine war. The damage is estimated at around ₹400 crore, according to reports. Hem Kaur Saroya explains on Vantage tonight.
