Dallas Police Officers Fatally Shoot Man Who Moved Towards Them With a Knife
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *Dallas, Texas — On June 28, 2024, at 6:48 p.m., Dallas Police were called to disturbance at 5800 block of Beltline Road. The preliminary investigation determined, a woman reported a man was hurting her, had knives and a machete and had threatened her and a dog at the scene. Senior Corporal Brandon Massey, Officer Dakota Capparucci and Sergeant Yancy Graves responded and found the suspect and the victim in an encampment, in the woods, behind an apartment complex. The officers saw the suspect, identified 34-year-old Cody Watkins with a knife inside the tent, with the woman caller. Officers ordered Watkins to drop the knife and while they were talking with the suspect, the woman was able to get out of the tent.
Officers continued to give commands for the suspect to drop the knife and come out of the tent. Watkins refused, continuing to hold the weapon. When verbal commands were unsuccessful, Officers used pepper spray and less lethal to get Watkins to comply. The suspect then came toward officers, holding the knife and see Senior Corporal Massey and Officer Capparucci fired their weapons at the suspect, hitting him. Sergeant Graves did not fire his weapon. The officer immediately administered first aid and called for Dallas fire rescue. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. The woman Inside the tent was also taken to a local hospital for minor injuries. No officers were injured.
