Il ministro degli Esteri iraniano Abbas Araghchi ha parlato di un atto che «non rimarrà senza risposta», telefonando direttamente all'Alto rappresentante Ue Kaja Kallas per chiedere che l'Europa fermi Kiev. Pochi giorni dopo, il 29 luglio, Teheran ha parlato di errore non intenzionale ammesso dalla diplomazia ucraina, cercando di evitare un'escalation con la Repubblica islamica.
Sullo sfondo si muove anche la crisi interna ucraina: il 15 luglio Zelensky ha rimosso il ministro della Difesa Mykhailo Fedorov, l'uomo dietro l'"esercito di droni" di Kiev, scatenando proteste di piazza. Pochi giorni dopo il ministro Guido Crosetto ha offerto a Fedorov un ruolo di consulente a Roma, provocando la reazione al vetriolo della portavoce del ministero degli Esteri russo Maria Zakharova, che ha paragonato l'offerta a un ipotetico incarico per Osama bin Laden.
È su questo scenario che inizia l'excursus di Giorgio Bianchi, che ha introdotto il tema legandolo a una lettura più ampia del conflitto, definendo l'operazione russa un fallimento strategico per Putin.
A raccogliere il ragionamento è stato #AlbertoNegri, che ha aperto il suo intervento chiarendo subito la posta in gioco: «Innanzitutto sul primo punto, non c'è dubbio che gli iraniani si prenderanno una vendetta» per l'attacco rivendicato da Kiev. Sul fronte ucraino, l'analista osserva che Zelensky non avrebbe interesse a un accordo definitivo, perché, nelle sue parole, «è la guerra che lo tiene in piedi», garantendogli finanziamenti europei altrimenti irraggiungibili.
