SHAMEFUL: Hegseth's Smooth Talk About Wounded Troops BACKFIRES on Him
Sen. Tammy Baldwin asks Pete Hegseth if he checked that military care was ready for the wounded. He never says. His answer: 'We have been.'
At a May 12, 2026 Senate Appropriations hearing on the Iran war and a $1.5 trillion military budget, Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) pressed Secretary Pete Hegseth on care for wounded troops. She asked if he had reviewed the military health system's readiness, and he never said. Asked to commit to care for every service member, he answered: "We have been and we will continue to be."
The record now answers him. Maj. Billy Key told the Associated Press he did not get specialized care until mid-April: "It took too long." AP reported that Maj. Stephen Ramsbottom waited over four months for his MRI results. The Pentagon says the care was appropriate. My read: officers with names and dates outweigh a one-line assurance.
