Lo scorso 12 gennaio la chiesa di San Nicolò di Treviso ha ospitato la presentazione pubblica dell’esperimento del «Pendolo di Foucault», nato per dimostrare la rotazione della Terra grazie all'effetto della forza di Coriolis. L'esperimento prende il nome dal fisico francese Jean Bernard Léon Foucault, che ha condotto importanti studi in questo campo contribuendo in maniera decisiva a confermare alcune importanti teorie fisiche. Tra le sue invenzioni si annovera anche il giroscopio, uno strumento utilizzato per la navigazione. L'evento è stato promosso dall’Ateneo di Treviso in collaborazione con il Museo Scarpa e con l’Associazione Astrofili di Ponte di Piave. Al progetto hanno collaborato alcuni studenti del Liceo scientifico Leonardo da Vinci di Treviso, contribuendo alle attività di studio e preparazione legate all’iniziativa. L’appuntamento ha offerto al pubblico l’occasione di conoscere da vicino l’esperimento e il contesto in cui è stato presentato, all’interno di uno degli spazi storici più significativi della città.
