Pulau Galang dipilih karena memiliki fasilitas rumah sakit dan sarana pendukung yang memadai untuk merawat Warga Gaza. Namun rencana ini masih menunggu lampu hijau dari pemerintah Palestina.Rencana ini memicu berbagai reaksi di tanah air. Ada yang pro dengan alasan kemanusiaan dan peran Indonesia untuk memberi kontribusi nyata membantu Warga Gaza. Namun, ada juga pihak yang kontra, dengan alasan rencana ini akan digunakan sebagai justifikasi relokasi warga Gaza oleh Israel dan Amerika Serikat.
