Pernyataan tersebut disampaikan Macron dalam wawancara dengan televisi LCI pekan lalu.
Macron memperingatkan para pemimpin Eropa agar tidak menaruh kepercayaan penuh kepada Putin.
Ia menyebut Rusia akan terus mencari cara untuk memperkuat posisinya di kawasan.
Komentar itu dilontarkan setelah Macron menghadiri pertemuan di Washington bersama Presiden AS Donald Trump, Presiden Ukraina Volodymyr Zelensky, serta sejumlah pemimpin Eropa lainnya.
Kementerian Luar Negeri Rusia menilai pernyataan Macron melampaui batas kewajaran dan dianggap sebagai penghinaan vulgar terhadap negara serta rakyat Rusia.
Pernyataan itu disampaikan juru bicara Maria Zakharova dalam pengarahan yang disiarkan televisi, Jumat (29/8/2025).
Moskow menilai komentar Macron menunjukkan sikap bermusuhan Perancis yang sejak awal mendukung Ukraina.
Prancis juga dituduh memprovokasi konflik melalui bantuan politik dan militer kepada Kyiv.
