En 1940, con Europa cayendo ante el avance del Estado Alemán y Reino Unido amenazado de invasión, Churchill tomó una decisión extrema: vaciar las bóvedas del Banco de Inglaterra y trasladar en secreto oro, joyas, bonos, acciones y certificados al otro lado del Atlántico.Miles de cajas cruzaron el océano escoltadas por buques de guerra, perseguidas por submarinos alemanes y transportadas después hasta las bóvedas secretas de Canadá. Mientras tanto, en Montreal, cientos de funcionarios trabajaban bajo tierra para convertir aquella riqueza en dólares, armas, combustible y tiempo para mantener viva la guerra.
