Was bist du bereit zu leisten – für eine Essiggurke? In Niederbayern, wo rund die Hälfte aller deutschen Essiggurken geerntet wird, schuften Saisonarbeiter Tag für Tag im Akkord. Der Job? Knochenhart. Der Lohn? Minimum.Gepflückt wird per Hand – im Liegen. Auf sogenannten Gurkenfliegern, die von Traktoren gezogen werden, liegen die Erntehelfer bäuchlings über dem Acker. Stundenlang. Bei Hitze, Regen oder Wind greifen sie nach jeder einzelnen Gurke. Für viele kaum vorstellbar – für sie Alltag.
Doch immer weniger Menschen sind bereit, diese Arbeit zu machen. Ohne die Hilfe osteuropäischer Saisonkräfte gäbe es kaum noch heimische Gurken im Glas. Aber wie lange funktioniert dieses System noch? Wer erntet unsere Gurken, wenn niemand mehr kommt? Müssen wir sie bald aus Indien importieren?
Diese Geschichte ist mehr als Landwirtschaft – sie ist ein Blick hinter die Kulissen unseres Konsums.
