Space Race 2.0: Flags, footprints, and lunar permanence | Sariah Fischer | TEDxWakeForestU
More than 50 years since Americans last walked on the Moon and declared victory in the first space race with the Soviet Union, we’re once again hearing familiar language: race, competition, the Moon. But Sariah Fischer argues that Space Race 2.0 against China isn’t a sprint to a landing site; it’s a race to build permanence. Today’s “one small step” isn’t just a footprint or a flag, but an expanding industrial base combined with NASA, the Space Force, and our partners in the Artemis Accords to create a sustained presence—and a real chance to lead. Sariah Fischer works at the intersection of national security, commercial innovation, and humanity’s future in space. As Director of Business Development at Interlune, she is helping lay the foundation for a sustainable return to the Moon, starting with Helium-3. Her work centers on building the infrastructure and partnerships needed to support a lasting presence beyond Earth, aligning commercial momentum with the goals of NASA, the Department of War, and the Department of Energy. Previously, she led partnerships at SpiderOak Mission Systems, advancing secure-by-design technologies for the hybrid space domain, and supported the U.S. Space Force in rethinking how America sources, launches, and sustains its space capabilities. She mentors students through the SmallSat Alliance’s Collegiate Space Competition and serves on multiple boards across the space community. Sariah is a recognized voice in space policy, named to Payload Space’s 30 Under 30 and featured in Via Satellite’s Women in Satellite.
