Mumbai Left With Only 40 Days of Water Supply Amid Delayed Monsoon, BMC Takes Action | Spotlight
Mumbai is facing a deepening water crisis as delayed monsoon conditions push the city’s reservoirs to critically low levels. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imposed a 20% cut in water supply to industrial, commercial establishments, and sports clubs after reservoir levels dropped sharply. A 10% city-wide cut remains in force as authorities struggle to manage shrinking water reserves. The city, which depends on seven key lakes for its daily water supply, currently has only about 10% of its total storage capacity filled — enough to last roughly 40 days. With Mumbai requiring over 4,500 million litres of water every day, officials warn the situation could worsen if rainfall does not improve soon. Daniela Laurel tells you more on Spotlight.---
