Salvo D'Acquisto, carabiniere napoletano, nato il 15 ottobre 1920 nel rione Antignano al Vomero, non aveva nemmeno 23 anni quando fu ucciso, il 23 settembre del 1943, dalle SS naziste.In rappresaglia a una esplosione a Torrimpietra, alle porte di Roma, le sanguinarie Schutz-staffeln volevano ammazzare 22 persone innocenti.
Il vicebrigadiere napoletano Salvo d'Acquisto, si accusò dell'atto salvando tutti dalla ferocia dei militari tedeschi. Fu per questo trucidato a Torre di Palidoro (Roma) poco distante la stazione nella quale prestava servizio, lungo la via Aurelia, oggi comune di Fiumicino.
A Salvo D'Acquisto fu attribuita la frase: «Se muoio per altri cento, rinasco altre cento volte: Dio è con me e io non ho paura!» che sarebbe stata pronunciata poco prima dell'esecuzione nazista.
Ogni anno, a Napoli, una serie di cerimonie pubbliche ne rinnovano il ricordo e esaltano le eroiche gesta. Salvo d'Acquisto è sepolto nella basilica di Santa Chiara di Napoli dove ad ogni anniversario, il comandante interregionale dell'Arma depone fiori.
