Ia menderita krisis pernapasan yang berkepanjangan saat dirawat karena pneumonia dan infeksi paru-paru yang kompleks.
Dikabarkan Vatikan, Paus Fransiskus masih dalam keadaan sadar.
Ia menerima aliran oksigen yang tinggi untuk membantu pernapasannya.
Selain itu, Paus Fransiskus juga mendapatkan transfusi darah setelah tes menunjukkan jumlah trombosit yang rendah.
Diketahui, Paus Fransiskus telah dirawat di rumah sakit selama seminggu karena infeksi paru-paru yang kompleks.
Sementara Vatikan menyebut, saat ini pihaknya dalam kondisi waspada di tengah kondisi Paus Fransiskus.
"Bapa Suci tetap waspada dan menghabiskan hari di kursi berlengan meskipun kesakitan lebih parah daripada kemarin. Saat ini prognosisnya masih belum jelas." tulis Vatikan.
Sebelumnya, dokter mengatakan kesehatannya masih belum pasti.
Ia diperkirakan akan tetap dirawat di rumah sakit setidaknya selama seminggu lagi.
Ancaman utama yang dihadapi Paus adalah timbulnya sepsis.
Namun, hingga Jumat kemarin, tak ada bukti adanya sepsis, bahkan Paus Fransiskus juga merespons semua obat yang diberikan dokter.
