Yıllar önce sisli bir orman yolunda, cansız sandığım o beyaz havanın aslında nefes alıp veren bir ekosistem olduğunu bilmiyordum. Oysa soluduğumuz havada, bir mililitre sis suyunda yaklaşık bir milyon bakteri yaşıyor; bu görünmez biyoma aerobiyom deniyor. Yağmuru yağdıran bakterilerden Venüs'ün bulutlarındaki olası yaşama kadar, cansız sandığımız her yerin aslında ne kadar canlı olduğuna baktık. Belki de "boş hava" diye bir şey hiç olmadı.
