Gempa terjadi pada Jumat (19/9), sekira pukul 01.19 WIB.
Gempa ini menyebabkan sejumlah bangunan warga, seperti atap dan dinding rumah rusak.
Bahkan getaran gempa dilaporkan sampai terekam oleh kamera CCTV.
Setelah guncangan gempa utama berkekuatan M 6.6, sebanyak 50 gempa susulan kembali mengguncang Nabire hingga pukul 09.32 WIT.
Gempa susulan terbesar terjadi pada pukul 07.53 WIT, dengan kekuatan guncangan M 5,1.
Menurut Direktur Gempa Bumi dan Tsunami BMKG, Daryono, hasil pantauan BMKG menunjukkan ada update parameter gempa dengan M 6,5.
Gempa ini berdampak dan dirasakan di Nabire dengan skala intensitas V MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity).
Dimana getaran bisa dirasakan oleh hampir seluruh penduduk dan menyebabkan banyak orang terbangun.
Meski demikian, BMKG menyebut bahwa gempa ini tak memiliki potensi terjadinya tsunami.
Masyarakat diimbau untuk tetap tenang dan tidak terpengaruh oleh isu-isu yang tidak dapat dipertanggungjawabkan.
