Spinta dalla determinazione e dal desiderio di aiutare chi lotta per la sopravvivenza, quello della Prof. Pantaleo è il racconto di un’inaspettato e tenace percorso lungo strade invisibili agli occhi dei più, che l’ha condotta dalla scoperta di un nuovo farmaco antimalarico alle missioni spaziali. Professoressa di Fisiologia all’Università di Sassari, ha dedicato la sua carriera allo studio delle malattie emolitiche ereditarie e alla lotta contro la malaria, contribuendo allo sviluppo di nuovi farmaci sperimentati sul campo in Asia ed in Africa. È autrice di numerose pubblicazioni internazionali, e titolare di brevetti che spaziano dalle biotecnologie ai farmaci innovativi. Ė direttrice della Scuola di Specializzazione in Scienze dell’Alimentazione e vicepresidente della Società Italiana di Biologia Sperimentale, una delle più antiche realtà scientifiche del Paese.È conosciuta come la “Professoressa dello Spazio” per le sue ricerche su spirulina, l’“oro verde”: un’alga capace non solo di nutrire, ma anche di catturare CO₂ e purificare l’aria, con applicazioni che vanno dall’alimentazione funzionale alle missioni aerospaziali. Antonella Pantaleo attraversa con coraggio i confini tra biologia, ambiente e tecnologia, alla ricerca di una scienza che non si limiti a spiegare il mondo, ma che possa trasformarlo.
