Mentre l’Italia pondera un possibile ritorno al nucleare, cresce il volume dei rifiuti radioattivi nel Paese. Secondo l’Inventario Nazionale dei Rifiuti Radioattivi aggiornato al 31 dicembre 2024, sono 33.766,60 metri cubi, con un incremento del 3,38% rispetto al 2023, di cui circa il 36% nel Lazio. Per fare chiarezza su questa delicata questione, #Astrea ha intervistato Anna Francesca Mariani, ingegnere nucleare e direttrice del Deposito Nazionale e Parco Tecnologico di #Sogin, e Davide Tabarelli, presidente di #Nomisma Energia.

"I rifiuti in questo momento sono collocati presso vari depositi temporanei in Italia", spiega Mariani. Sono presenti nelle ex centrali in dismissione, negli impianti ex #Enea e in strutture ospedaliere e industriali distribuite in città come Milano, #Roma, Pisa e Palermo.
"È fondamentale avere un sito unico per aumentare i livelli di sicurezza", sottolinea l’ingegnere. Attualmente i rifiuti sono già sicuri, ma il deposito nazionale rappresenterà una soluzione definitiva per quelli a bassa e molto bassa attività, completando anche il decommissioning degli impianti nucleari.
