In programma nella plenaria di martedì 7 settembre, il Parlamento europeo ha votato per la proposta di revoca dell'immunità parlamentare della deputata di Alleanza Verdi Sinistra, accusata in Ungheria di aggressione. Per la votazione è stato previsto il voto segreto. Hanno votato per la revoca 305 parlamentari contro 306 favorevoli alla conferma dell'immunità. 17 gli astenuti. Un solo voto di scarto dunque consente a Ilaria Salis di non andare a processo in Ungheria. Il PPE, il più grande gruppo dell'emiciclo, aveva fatto sapere che avrebbe votato per la revoca perché il reato contestato sarebbe avvenuto prima dell'inizio del mandato. Si erano invece dichiarati favorevoli a mantenere l'immunità i gruppi di sinistra dell'Europarlamento. Il ridotto scarto che ha favorito l'immunità, ha portato alla ricerca di franchi tiratori all'interno dei Popolari.
Dopo la votazione, un parlamentare ha segnalato un malfunzionamento tecnico che avrebbe impedito a un collega di votare. "La scheda di Markus Ferber non funziona", ha detto l'eurodeputato ceco del Ppe Tomáš Zdechovskì. "Davvero vergognoso che qui abbiamo problemi tecnici. Chiediamo di ripetere il voto". La richiesta però è stata respinta dalla presidente del Parlamento, Roberta Metsola: "Il voto è valido".
