En Japón, las encuestas señalan a un rechazo mayoritario de la población a la afirmación del Gobierno de que "en el país no hay problemas suministro de nafta", un derivado de la refinación del petróleo crudo ampliamente usado en materiales como los plásticos. Un sondeo realizado por Asahi TV muestra que el 61 por ciento de los encuestados no está de acuerdo con esa afirmación. Solo el 28 por ciento la considera aceptable. Por otro lado, un 40 por ciento apoya el despliegue de las Fuerzas de Autodefensa japonesas para escoltar barcos en el estrecho de Ormuz, frente a otro 40 por ciento que se muestra en contra de esta medida.
