Yemen’s STC leader al-Zubaidi saw Riyadh trip as ‘political suicide’: Analysis
Yemeni southern separatists say their leader, Aidarous al-Zubaidi, is overseeing military operations in Aden.They say he refused to board a plane scheduled to fly him to Saudi Arabia for peace talks.
Earlier, the Saudi-led coalition bombed areas of southern Yemen, where it says al-Zubaidi has been arming forces.
Hisham al-Omeisy, a political and conflict analyst focusing on Yemen, told Al Jazeera that al-Zubaidi feared that if he went to Saudi Arabia for the talks, he would be “cornered” and possibly “imprisoned”, adding that he was trying to delay his departure until “he organises his troops on the ground”.
