El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, anunció que el presidente venezolano, Nicolás Maduro, y su esposa fueron capturados y trasladados fuera de Venezuela. El anuncio en redes sociales se produjo poco después de que Washington reivindicara los ataques a gran escala que se han llevado a cabo este sábado en el país sudamericano. En respuesta, la vicepresidenta venezolana, Delcy Rodríguez, exigió pruebas de vida tanto del presidente Maduro como de su conyuge. Entretanto, la embajada de Estados Unidos en Venezuela emitió una advertencia en la que aconseja a sus ciudadanos evitar viajar al país. Los ataques estadounidenses se prolongaron durante aproximadamente una hora y tuvieron como objetivo zonas clave, incluida la capital, Caracas. Entre los puntos alcanzados figuran el Ministerio de Defensa, aeródromos militares y puertos. Poco después, el presidente Maduro declaró el estado de emergencia y llamó a la población a movilizarse frente a lo que calificó como una “agresión imperialista”. Venezuela ha denunciado estos bombardeos como acto de agresión estadounidense contra su territorio y su población.
