Miliardi su miliardi, gran parte dei quali praticamente a fondo perduto, dati a ogni Paese del continente come aiuto per la ripresa dalla guerra. Un aiuto disinteressato o una leva geopolitica (nonché soft power)? Da allora i Paesi che hanno accettato, aderiscono a una visione filo-statunitense, col rischio di esserne condizionati anche internamente. Le scene che si osservano oggi sono emblematiche. La puntuale grande attenzione mediatica rivolta alle elezioni statunitensi; Trump che incontra i leader europei, seduti a cerchio davanti alla sua scrivania nello Studio Ovale. Che dire delle rivelazioni, fatte dallo stesso presidente USA, su USAID? "Ma allora era meglio l'altra influenza?", si può chiedere in risposta. No: il punto da rimettere in discussione, secondo Fabio Duranti, è la zona grigia, lì in mezzo, che riguarda le conseguenze. Come, per esempio, avere tutte quelle basi NATO sul proprio suolo.
