Mandani y Sanders expresaron su apoyo a la demanda de que la empresa de tiendas de café alcance un acuerdo laboral justo con su fuerza de trabajo sindicalizada tras años de emplear tácticas dilatorias para evitarlo.
Hablando frente a una tienda de la empresa en Brooklyn, Mamdani afirmó que Nueva York es una “ciudad sindical” y se comprometió a acompañar este tipo de movilizaciones después de asumir la alcaldía el primero de enero. Sanders, por su parte, en respuesta a una pregunta de Democracy Now!, dijo que la exitosa campaña de Mamdani para la alcaldía marca una hoja de ruta para el Partido Demócrata, que pone en el centro de la agenda la asequibilidad en el costo de vida y los derechos de la gente trabajadora . “Tenemos a los sectores populares de Estados Unidos de nuestro lado”, dijo Sanders.
