Alle ultime elezioni regionali ha votato meno del 45 per cento degli aventi diritto. Nelle precedenti tornate la percentuale era già in discesa e dobbiamo purtroppo constatare che questa tendenza prosegue. Non ci si può stancare di ripeterlo: una democrazia di astenuti, di assenti, di rassegnati è una democrazia più fragile e a subirne danno sono i cittadini. Riflettere su questo fenomeno è un dovere di tutti, mentre talvolta si ha l’impressione che l’astensionismo sia una sorta di problema del giorno prima, come se, dopo, a contare fosse soltanto chi ha vinto e chi ha perso e tutto tornasse a essere normale. Una società che non si preoccupa quando la maggioranza assoluta degli elettori sceglie di non votare non si accorge che, in questo modo, si riduce la sua solidità, che la sua politica rischia di esaurirsi nella autoreferenzialità".
