Movies, Making, and Saving the Planet | Emma Doxiadi | TEDxUniversityofMacedonia

What happens when cinema meets sustainability? Writer, director, and environmental advocate Emma Doxiadi weaves powerful narratives with a purpose—on and off screen. From premiering films at Cannes to founding Greece’s first green initiative for the audiovisual sector, she shares how storytelling can be a force for environmental change. In this talk, Emma explores how sustainable filmmaking has shaped her path and reveals what the industry—and the planet—stand to gain when creativity serves a greater cause. Emma Doxiadi is a Greek-Australian writer, director, producer, and environmentalist whose work reflects a strong commitment to purposeful storytelling. She has collaborated with acclaimed names such as Faliro House Productions and director Terrence Malick, and her films have screened at Cannes, Berlinale, SXSW, and Tribeca. She studied at NYU Tisch Grad Film and is an alumna of the Sundance Institute’s Screenwriters Lab, where she honed her craft in storytelling and visual expression.
Emma founded filmsos, Greece’s first sustainability initiative for the audiovisual sector. In 2022, she expanded her focus with Everybodies, a multimedia company centered on climate-driven narratives. She also leads sustainability efforts for film festivals such as the Evia Film Project and Thessaloniki Film Festival, as well as climate-focused film campaigns like More Flames, executive produced by Adam McKay. Sustainable filmmaking has taught her lessons in simplicity, adaptability, and purpose.
