Released in 2011, Salt N' Pepper was directed by Aashiq Abu and written by Syam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair. The film stars Lal as Kalidasan, Shweta Menon as Maya Krishnan, Asif Ali as Manu and Mythili as Meenakshi. Baburaj also plays an important role as Babu, Kalidasan's cook and confidant.

Kalidasan is an archaeologist and a passionate foodie. Maya is a dubbing artist with her own love of cooking and food. Their connection starts when Maya accidentally calls Kalidasan while trying to reach a dosa restaurant. What follows is a relationship built through conversations, food and shared interests.

The plot becomes more complicated when the characters become conscious of their appearances and nervous about meeting face-to-face. Kalidasan and Maya each turn to younger substitutes for their planned meeting: Manu and Meenakshi. This creates a mistaken-identity situation that brings fresh complications to the story.
