Japan Executes "Twitter Killer" for Killing Nine People in 2017 | Spotlight | N18GJapan has executed Takahiro Shiraishi, dubbed the "Twitter Killer," for the murders and dismemberment of nine people he met online in 2017. The 34-year-old was hanged on Friday (June 27), nearly five years after his conviction and death sentence in 2020. Justice Minister Keisuke Suzuki confirmed the execution, highlighting the "great shock and discomfort" caused by Shiraishi's "extremely selfish" crimes, which included robbery, rape, murder, and destruction of corpses. This marks Japan's first execution since 2022. Shiraishi used Twitter, now X, to target individuals aged 15 to 26 who posted suicidal thoughts, luring them to his home near Tokyo under the pretence of helping them or dying alongside them.
