Texas crypto boom sparks backlash over ‘noise pollution’

Crypto mines have proliferated in Texas, drawn by cheap land, tax incentives, and a deregulated energy market. Their rapid expansion is causing significant conflict with local communities, particularly over noise pollution. Residents report constant, intolerable noise from cooling systems, leading to health complaints and plummeting property values.
Legal action is being taken against the operators, with lawsuits alleging the disturbances cause physical and mental harm. Attempts by communities to gain local control and enforce noise ordinances have so far been unsuccessful. The mines represent a clash between industrial growth, which brings investment and jobs, and the right of residents to peaceful enjoyment of their homes.
