Der Messengerdienst Signal oder das Betriebssystem Linux basieren auf Open-Source-Software, das heißt auf freier und kostenloser Software. Das Besondere daran ist, dass der Quellcode bei Open-Source-Software offen liegt. Im Gegensatz zu kommerziellen Angeboten, die oft teuer sind. Getragen wird diese Open-Source-Idee von Millionen Freiwilligen auf der ganzen Welt, die in ihrer Freizeit und meistens unbezahlt coden und auch Fehler im Internet reparieren. Davon profitieren alle. Doch sie tun das manchmal bis zum Burnout.
