6 Years Ago I Built This Deck. Today We Tore It Down. | Home Addition Ep. 1
Six years ago I built this deck with my own hands. Today, we're tearing it down — and it's the first step in a much bigger project: adding onto our house. In this video (Episode 1 of our Home Addition series), I walk through the full deck demolition process: removing the cable railing, pulling off the Trex composite decking, taking down the joists and beams, and using a mini excavator to pull all 12 sono tube footings out of the ground.
It's a bittersweet one — we built so many memories on this deck with family and friends — but it's the right move to make space for our addition. Follow along as we document the entire build, including the mistakes and lessons learned along the way.
