Умань знову стала центром паломництва на Рош га-Шана – юдейський Новий рік. Цьогоріч до міста приїхали десятки тисяч хасидів, щоб зустріти свято біля могили цадика Нахмана з Бреслава.

Як паломники потрапляють до свого кварталу, що вони привозять із собою з Ізраїлю, чому під час свята чоловіки моляться годинами та чому частина жінок залишає Умань напередодні Рош га-Шана?

Радіо Свобода побувало серед паломників під час святкування. Ми побачили багатотисячні натовпи, молитви, танці та роботу тимчасового медичного пункту, куди лише за один ранок звернулися близько двох сотень людей.

Під час нашої зйомки в Умані лунала повітряна тривога. Деякі паломники при цьому заявили, що не збираються йти в укриття: «Бог з нами». Інші говорили про війну в Україні, бажали завершення бойових дій та повернення українських військових додому.
