Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Russian leader could be seen smiling ear to ear upon entering the meeting room. The two leaders shook hands and began the talks, which focused on bilateral ties, Russia’s war in Ukraine and other global issues. After the meeting, Jaishankar said he also conveyed the warm greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Putin. Earlier, Jaishankar met his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. The Indian minister underlined India-Russia ties as "the steadiest" in the world, while Lavrov described the ties as a "special strategic partnership". Jaishankar's bilateral meetings have set the stage for Putin’s visit to India later this year. The warm diplomatic engagement between India and Russia also followed Trump's announcement of 50 per cent tariffs on Indian imports.Also on the show:
