Nato a Sassuolo il 19 febbraio 1931, Camillo Ruini è stato ordinato sacerdote l'8 dicembre 1954. La sua esperienza e la sua visione hanno influenzato per decenni i rapporti tra la Chiesa italiana e il mondo politico. Molto vicino a Papa Giovanni Paolo II, dal 1991 al 2007 è stato presidente della Conferenza Episcopale Italiana. Successivamente ha presieduto la Commissione d'inchiesta su Medjugorje ed il Comitato scientifico della Fondazione Joseph Ratzinger.
