Juni einen Großangriff auf den Iran begonnen und bombardierte seitdem insbesondere Atomanlagen und militärische Einrichtungen. Der Iran attackierte Israel im Gegenzug mit Raketen und Drohnen. Die USA hatten in der Nacht zum Sonntag in den Krieg eingegriffen und die iranischen Atomanlagen Fordo, Natans und Isfahan mit Kampfjets und bunkerbrechenden Bomben angegriffen. Westliche Staaten werfen dem Iran seit Jahren vor, nach Atomwaffen zu streben, was Teheran bestreitet.
Israels Regierung hat mitgeteilt, dass sie der Waffenruhe zugestimmt habe. Ministerpräsident Netanjahu habe in einer Kabinettssitzung gesagt, dass Israel all seine Ziele „und noch viel mehr“ erreicht habe.
Der Iran bezeichnete die Waffenruhe als Niederlage für Israel. Man habe Israel dazu gezwungen, „seine Niederlage zu akzeptieren und seine Aggression einseitig einzustellen“, teilte der Nationale Sicherheitsrat des Irans mit. Die iranische Armee bleibe in Alarmbereitschaft und sei bereit, auf jede Aggression zu reagieren.
