In this video Matthew King plays the main theme of Florence Price's 2nd violin concerto which was discovered in an abandoned house in 2009. The video focusses on the flowering of Price's own individual version of Romanticism, her lessons with Roy Harris, her skill at condensing concerto structure into a single movement, and the subsequent neglect of her music, following her death in 1953.
There are brief excerpts of the 2nd concerto in the video played by Randall Goosby (violin)
with the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin: https://youtu.be/VZpiuANDHaI?si=KgybjYnQFGiBaGRk and also by Karen Su (violin) with the Sinfonia Rotterdam, conducted by Conrad van Alphen: https://youtu.be/jMRTUl-rNkc?si=y-xVJhU2weiIcnJP. There is a short excerpt from Bartok's 2nd violin concerto played by Isaac Stern (violin) and the New York Philharmonic conducted by Leonard Bernstein: https://youtu.be/KbAaM9tIYhs?si=Jp9HE2T3dvbnSZDG. The excerpt from St. Hildegard of Bingen's Caritas abundant in Omnia is sung by St. Stanislav Girls’ Choir of the Diocesan Classical Gymnasium, conducted by Helena Fojkar Zupančič: https://youtu.be/HYzPR0nwcmY?si=0m_tE-6K89XaeaBT.
