With just four days until the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicks off across the United States, Mexico and Canada, concerns are growing over the extreme heat facing players and fans at several host cities. Temperatures in southern US venues such as Dallas and Houston regularly exceed 40 degrees Celsius, with the heat index pushing conditions to around 50 degrees. Urban heat scientists warn that fan zones, stadium approaches and open-air venues pose serious health risks, particularly for those not acclimatised to such conditions. Some teams have already moved training sessions to the evening to avoid the most dangerous daytime heat.Al Jazeera's Phil Lavelle reports from Dallas, Texas.
