I'm back! Well, not really. :) Here is my first post-retirement musical creation, a short excerpt of "Build My Life." It's also the first demonstration of my "virtual virtual choir" workflow, which took well over a year of research. I learned the Python programming language and leveraged my virtual choir portfolio to train AI models of male and female choirs. In short, I can replicate the distinctive sound of the DWVC using only my own voice to drive the performance.
I'm excited about the creative projects this breakthrough makes possible. I was able to record and mix this snippet of "Build My Life" in a single night, instead of the weeks of work needed for just the audio portion of a real virtual choir project. I can write arrangements (which has always been my favourite part) without the limitations of my vocal range or the abilities (and availabilities) of choir members. I might even be able to take requests or special commissions, something I could never do with a real choir.
This virtual virtual choir process will improve with practice and experimentation. In the meantime, please let me know what you think of this quick test!
