Program makan bergizi gratis ini menyasar kalangan pelajar, balita, dan ibu hamil atau menyusui. Program tersebut dijalankan dengan memberikan makan dan susu secara gratis kepada kelompok penerima.
Kasus keracunan makanan yang paling besar dan menghebohkan ialah keracunan MBG di Cipongkor, Kabupaten Bandung Barat, Jawa Barat.
Sebanyak 1.315 siswa jadi korban mereka mengalami mual, muntah dan pusing.
Koalisi Nasional Jaringan Pemantau Pendidikan Indonesia (JPPI) mencatat per 27 September 2025, korban keracunan program MBG sudah mencapai 8.649 anak.
Penambahan jumlah korban terbanyak terjadi pada satu pekan lalu (22-27 September 2025), korban mencapai 2.197 anak.
Menu makanan gratis yang dibagikan negara ini justru membuat antrean panjang di rumah sakit, keresahan orang tua, dan juga trauma.
Dekan Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia (FKUI) Prof. Ari Fahrial Syam menyatakan keracunan MBG tidak boleh diabaikan dan perlu segera dilakukan evaluasi maupun investigasi.
Prof. Ari turut menjabarkan kalau keracunan makanan dapat menimbulkan efek jangka panjang terkait gangguan kronis pada usus.
"Makanya saya bilang perlu antisipasi apabila dai terpapar kuman terus berulang akan menyebabkan gangguan kronis ususnya sensitif," pungkas Prof. Ari dalam program OnFocus Tribunnews, Senin (29/9/2025).
