PLO | Từng nhận giải thưởng ngôi sao, nghi phạm ám sát ông Trump có thành tích học tập tốtTheo New York Times, nghi phạm trong vụ mưu sát cựu Tổng thống Donald Trump là Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20 tuổi, từ quận Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Crooks có thành tích học tập tốt, tốt nghiệp Trường trung học Bethel Park năm 2022 và nhận "giải thưởng ngôi sao" từ Sáng kiến Toán và Khoa học Quốc gia.
Nghi phạm bị tiêu diệt trên nóc tòa nhà gần nơi ông Trump tổ chức sự kiện, bên cạnh một khẩu súng trường AR-15. Không mang theo giấy tờ tùy thân, danh tính của Crooks được xác định qua vân tay và đặc điểm sinh trắc học.
Crooks đã đăng ký làm cử tri chính thức của Đảng Cộng hòa nhưng cũng từng ủng hộ 15 USD cho một ủy ban hành động chính trị cấp tiến của Đảng Dân chủ vào ngày 20-1-2021, ngày nhậm chức của Tổng thống Joe Biden, cho thấy quan điểm chính trị dao động.
Sáng 14-7, lực lượng chức năng phong tỏa toàn bộ tuyến đường dẫn đến nhà Crooks tại Bethel Park. Trên mạng xã hội X, xuất hiện một video nghi ngờ là Crooks, tự nhận ghét Đảng Cộng hòa và ông Trump, nhưng chưa được xác thực bởi các cơ quan có thẩm quyền. Hiện chưa có thêm thông tin và hình ảnh rõ nét về nghi phạm.
