Katz dalam serangkaian wawancaranya pada Kamis (26/6) malam menyatakan bahwa Israel sempat berusaha melenyapkan pemimpin Tertinggi Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Khamenei menjadi target utama selama konflik bersenjata itu berlangsung.
Namun demikian kesempatan operasional untuk menyerang Khamenei tidak pernah datang.
Menurutnya, Israel telah “banyak mencari” keberadaan Khamenei, namun sang pemimpin Iran bersembunyi sangat dalam dan memutus kontak dengan para komandannya.
Ketika ditanya apakah Israel meminta izin AS untuk menyerang Khamenei, Katz menegaskan bahwa negaranya tak membutuhkan izin siapa pun untuk tindakan tersebut.
Di sisi lain Katz menegaskan bahwa rencana pembunuhan terhadap Khamenei kini sudah tidak lagi berlaku setelah gencatan senjata.
Namun dalam pernyataan bernada ancaman, ia menyarankan Khamenei untuk tetap berada di bunker, merujuk pada nasib pemimpin Hizbullah, Hassan Nasrallah, yang dibunuh Israel tahun lalu.
Dengan situasi yang tetap tegang, pernyataan Katz ini memperjelas bahwa konflik Israel-Iran belum benar-benar usai, hanya diam untuk sementara.
