El traumatólogo Pedro Guillén desmonta mitos y ofrece una visión clara y directa: hoy por hoy, la artrosis no tiene cura. La enfermedad, que es la más prevalente a partir de los 55 años y afecta a millones de personas en todo el mundo, provoca el deterioro progresivo del cartílago articular, dolor, derrame, pérdida de fuerza y limitación funcional. Su desenlace final, en muchos casos, es la prótesis.

Guillén explica por qué muchos tratamientos solo alivian síntomas y denuncia falsas promesas: “Todo lo que le cuentan es mentira”. Desde infiltraciones con corticoides hasta ácido hialurónico, los efectos son temporales. Sin embargo, el futuro de la medicina no pasa por resignarse, sino por actuar sobre la célula dañada y su epigenética, reconduciéndola hacia la normalidad.

Con una defensa apasionada de la investigación como motor del desarrollo, el doctor reivindica una medicina humanizada, cercana y comprometida con la innovación. Su mensaje es claro: invertir en ciencia es invertir en bienestar. Y aunque quizá él no vea la victoria definitiva frente a la artrosis, está convencido de que las nuevas generaciones sí lo harán.
