Zhang Xiaogang, portavoz del Ministerio de Defensa Nacional de China, instó este viernes a Washington a cancelar su plan de venta de armamentos a la región china de Taiwan y a detener el reabastecimiento con armas de cualquier tipo. Sus declaraciones respondieron a una pregunta de los medios sobre la reciente aprobación por parte del Departamento de Defensa de Estados Unidos de ventas de armas por alrededor de 300 millones de dólares a Taiwan. Zhang señaló que las ventas de armas de la Casa Blanca a la región china de Taiwan han transgredido gravemente el principio de una sola China y los tres comunicados conjuntos China-Estados Unidos, especialmente el comunicado del 17 de agosto.
