Kia EV5: It’s good, but there’s a problem…
This is our in-depth review of the all-new Kia EV5. We’ll be testing what it’s like to drive, looking around the interior, the amount of storage, and seeing whether it’s a better option than the Kia EV3.Get 20% off Car Vertical using code Carwow: https://bit.ly/Carwow-Car-Vertical
We’ve got our hands on the all-new Kia EV5, and while it’s a really good car, there’s one thing we need to investigate.
Although it’s bigger, it is extremely similar to the cheaper Kia EV3. So does the new EV5 offer enough to make it the better choice, or should you save some money and choose the EV3 instead? Let’s take a closer look…
In terms of the design, the EV5 looks great from whatever angle you look at it. Up top there are stylish & angular headlights, giving the car a slightly aggressive look from the front. There are elements of black trim across the car to give it a more rugged look, and around the back there are more stylish headlights. The side angle highlights the boxy design (similar to the EV9), and overall it looks great. The good news, also, is that whether you choose the entry-level or the top-of-the-range edition (as we have for this review), all editions look extremely similar.
On the inside, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. There are soft-touch materials across the top of the dash, and there’s a good amount of storage throughout, but the infotainment and digital dial screens that dominate the dash aren’t the best. They’re a bit dark, and the infotainment system isn’t the best, but Apple CarPlay & Android Auto is available if needed. There’s one big plus point though - physical climate control buttons!!
All editions of the Kia EV5 come with the same single electric motor, driving the front wheels, that can deliver 217hp. They all also come equipped with an 81kWh battery, which in this GT-Line S trim, is good for a claimed range of 313 miles. The entry-level Air has a claimed range of 329 miles.
The Kia EV5 starts from £39,345, rising up to £47,145 for the range-topping GT-Line S. However, at the time of writing there’s an average saving of £4,000 for one of these on Carwow.
The question is, with the EV3 range starting from £33,000, which one should you choose? Stick with Mat to see for yourself!
