Der Streit um die Rente entwickelt sich für die Bundesregierung zu einer immer größeren Belastungsprobe. Die junge Gruppe der Union ist weiterhin nicht bereit, den Gesetzentwurf von SPD-Ministerin Bas mitzutragen. Der Entwurf sieht vor, dass das Rentenniveau nach 2031 rund einen Prozentpunkt höher liegen soll, als geltendes Recht es verlangt. Das sorgt bei der Jungen Union für Unmut: Sie befürchtet eine zu große finanzielle Belastung der jüngeren Generation. Für ihren Widerstand gegen die Rentenpläne der SPD-Ministerin erhalten die Jungpolitiker viel Zuspruch innerhalb der Union. Klar ist aber auch: Wenn die 18 jungen Abgeordneten der Union im Bundestag bei ihrem Nein bleiben, könnten das den Fortbestand der Koalition gefährden. Wie also sieht ihre Strategie aus?
