I'll Never Play a Hohner Marine Band 1896 Again!

This is basically my harmonica review of the 3 types of Hohner Marine Bands: the 1896, the Crossover, and the Deluxe.
The Hohner Marine Band 1896 was released in the year 1896 and is essentially the same design as it was when it was released over 125 years ago.
* Tone is 5/5 Stars!
*Coverplates are attached with nails.
*Pearwood comb is double-lacquered to prevent swelling
*Comb has sharp corners.
*Tines have sharp edges
*Very uncomfortable
The Hohner Marine Band Crossover was released in 2009, and these are the main differences Hohner notes between it and the 1896 model
*Triple lacquered bamboo comb
*Screws instead of nails on the cover plate
*The tuning is compromised between the 1896’s just intonation (which sounds best for chords) and the Golden Melody’s equal temperament which sounds best for single notes
The main thing I initially noticed about the Crossover were
*Very responsive and bendable
*Very comfortable
*VERY expensive. About 33% more expensive than the 1896!
But of course the star of this video is the Hohner Marine Band Deluxe.
Hohner released The Hohner Marine Band Deluxe in 2005, and here’s what Hohner notes about it that is different:
*Screws on the coverplates instead of nails
*An extra coat of lacquer on the front of the pearwood comb
This became my new favorite Marine Band. And here’s why:
*VALUE: It’s way less expensive than a Crossover
*The tuning is identical to the 1896
*So comfy!
So the Marine Band Deluxe is now my favorite Hohner harmonica, and THAT'S why I'll never play a Marine Band 1896 again. It worth a few extra bucks for the COMFORT of the Deluxe.
Again, this has been a harmonica review of the 3 types of Hohner Marine Bands: the 1896, the Crossover, and the Deluxe. (There is technically a 4th: the Thunderbird, which are simply the Low Tuned Crossovers, which I do play and love. Quality Control on them does not seem up to snuff, however. I've had 2 lemons out of the box which I've never had with ANY other Hohner, and which is ABSURD considering how EXPENSIVE they are. They did make it right for me in both instance though, so I'll give them that! Also, the Thunderbirds are my favorite low tuned harps though in terms of tone and playability.)
