The WNBA Has No Idea What a Woman Is, So Men Are Joining 🤣The WNBA wrote itself into a corner. Their new collective bargaining agreement says only "women" are eligible to play — but they got very, very shy about defining what a woman actually is. So two male NBA players took them up on it.
SugarTits and I break down the whole glorious mess. It started when Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham said the reasonable, common-sense thing — that biological men shouldn't compete in women's sport — and promptly got painted as the transphobic monster of the minute, complete with duelling protests outside games and a Seattle Storm co-owner getting suspended for cursing out two teenage girls holding pro-Sophie signs.
Then Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White, two very large, very bearded NBA men, declared themselves eligible for the 2027 WNBA draft — on the grounds that if self-identification is all it takes, they qualify. Both are, and we quote, lovely stunning brave women now. One of them helpfully points out he can palm a women's basketball more easily than almost anyone in history and fully intends to use the women's locker room.
Cue WNBA commissioner Kathy Engelbert scrambling out an emergency memo and convening a task force to figure out what a woman is. In the year 2026. Clown world.
