Will banning TikTok resolve social media issues of data privacy and perceived foreign influence?
TikTok said it would "go dark" in the United States on Sunday unless the government intervenes and assures that service providers won't be held liable for breaking a law banning the video-sharing platform. The statement comes after the US Supreme Court upheld a law banning TikTok from operating in America, unless the platform is sold by its Chinese parent company. The justices agreed the risk to national security from TikTok's Chinese ownership trumps concerns about limiting freedom of speech. TikTok has around 170 million users in the United States. President-elect Donald Trump says he will review the Supreme Court ruling and decide on TikTok's future.Chapter Breakdown
