How much food and real local life can you experience in Tehran with only $5?In this video, we take on a $5 food challenge in Tehran, Iran, and explore the city through its metro, mountain streets, traditional breakfast, local markets, homemade Persian food, and night views.
🚇 Tehran Metro
Our journey begins inside the Tehran Metro, one of the busiest parts of everyday life in the city. It is one of the best ways to see how people move through Tehran and experience the real rhythm of Iran’s capital.
🌿 Darakeh, Tehran
From the metro, we head to Darakeh, a beautiful mountain area in northern Tehran. Surrounded by nature, fresh air, and local restaurants, we try a traditional Persian breakfast with fresh bread, Iranian tea, cream and honey, Tabrizi cheese, tomato, cucumber, parsley, fresh lemon, walnuts, Iranian omelette, and fresh orange juice.
The Iranian tea costs about $0.64, and the traditional Persian breakfast costs about $2.88.
After breakfast, we walk through the lively path of Darakeh, showing the people, the mountain atmosphere, and the everyday life of this popular local spot.
🍽️ Grand Bazaar of Tehran – 15 Khordad
Next, we go to the Grand Bazaar of Tehran near 15 Khordad, one of the busiest and most historic parts of the city.
There, we meet a local food seller who has been selling homemade Persian food from his cart for almost 28 years. Every day, he prepares traditional Iranian dishes at home and brings them to the bazaar to sell.
His most popular dishes are Ghormeh Sabzi and Gheymeh, two classic Persian foods loved by many Iranians. The rice is served with Persian saffron, and the meal feels simple, homemade, affordable, and full of flavor.
Our lunch costs only about $1.11.
🥤 Fresh Local Juice
Later, we try a refreshing local juice for about $0.40, made from a mix of barberry juice, sour cherry juice, and pomegranate juice. It has a sweet, sour, and very unique taste.
🌙 Tehran at Night & Bam-e Tehran
After the bazaar, we continue through Tehran at night to see another side of the city. Finally, we end the journey at Bam-e Tehran, one of the most famous viewpoints in the capital.
In total, we spent around $5 on Iranian tea, traditional Persian breakfast, homemade local food, and fresh juice in Tehran.
From the Tehran Metro to Darakeh, from Persian breakfast to $1 homemade food in the Grand Bazaar, and from Tehran at night to Bam-e Tehran, this video shows what you can eat and experience in Iran’s capital with only $5.
This is more than a food challenge.
